Long neck oval hole Mandolin #140

$3600 (ex transport)

New long neck oval hole mandolin with custom Cedar Creek case.  Standard scale length but the cross piece is at the 14th fret.  Carpathian Spruce top, Tasmanian Oak back and sides and Indian Rosewood bindings.  Modified Brekke bridge and gold engraved James tailpiece, Paua Abalone sound hole rosette and marker dots.    Neck is Queensland Maple, Fingerboard is Ebony and the pickguard is Tasmanian Blackwood.  Schaller machine heads with Lancewood tuning knobs.  Width of the neck at the nut is 28mm.

Although this mandolin has a longer neck, it has the typical vintage oval hole sound.  This one does not have the hybrid sound, but does feel similar to play as an A5 because of the long neck.  Big ring and sustain, and very responsive and loud.  It has one of the best sounding treble of any of my mandolins.  It does not have the solid feel and bass of the short neck oval hole mandolins, but is slightly brighter and sweeter in the treble.  More like a Lyon and Healy than a Gibson.  Overall balance of this mandolin does sound similar to my 1918 Lyon and Healy, but it has more headroom and sounds clearer and cleaner.
