Mandolin for sale

2 Point A5 Mandolin #342  $5200 (includes case)

This mandolin is the first 2 point A5 mandolin I have made.  It was started 3 years ago, but I got caught up in other things and only recently got around to finishing it.  Big mistake, I should have finished it 3 years ago.  I think it is the best, or at least one of the best sounding A5 mandolins I have made to date.  The Blackwood is from Tasmania, and is unusually stiff so I could carve the back thinner and it has made a lovely sounding lightweight mandolin.  The sound is gorgeous.  Sweet, responsive and very evenly balanced, and it does like the Thomastic strings.  Beautiful sound when played soft, but can really push out the volume when hit hard.

Woods are - Engelmann Spruce top, Tasmanian Balckwood back, sides and neck, Indian Rosewood bindings, Macassar Ebony fingerboard (12in radius, 30mm wide at the nut), 13 & 7/8 inch scale length, Schaller GrandTune satin gold tuners with Ebony knobs, ebony Brekke bridge, and satin gold James tailpiece.  Varnish finish.  It comes with Thomastic strings installed.  Price includes a case.

For my American customers, note that this mandolin does not have any shell inlay.  The fingerboard marker dots are opal, and the headstock inlay is European Maple, Blackwood and Huon Pine.wood.  There is no need for a USA import permit for shell inlay, but may require Lacey act paperwork.  Australia Post has now resumed shipping to the USA, but there is a 10% tariff payable before I can ship to the USA.

Here is a video of Dean playing it just before a gig.  It is an I-phone microphone and in a dance hall so apologies for the background noise and hall sound.
