Octave Mandolin for sale
Octave Mandolin #336 $3600 (includes case)
This octave mandolin is the 3rd of a new type of Octave Mandolin for me. It has the body of a mandola but with deeper ribs, and a short scale length of 17 & 3/4 inches. This instrument is aimed at mandolin players and people who want to play a European style of "octave mandola". The resulting instruments have blown me away in the sound department. Far better than any really short scale length OM should sound, according to conventional beliefs. It is lightly built according to the 4th generation flattop principles, so the top is fan braced with carbon fiber reinforement, and is a dead back design. It certainly does work. I thought the light construction of the 4th generation flattop instruments would work in a small OM and it has exceeeded my expecations. This Octave Mandolin is mostly made from Australian native woods.
Woods are - King Billy Pine top, fiddleback
Tasmanian Blackwood
back, sides and neck, Indian Rosewood bindings, Macassar
Ebony fingerboard (12in radius, 33mm wide at the nut), 17 &
3/4 inch inch scale length, Schaller GrandTune satin pearl
tuners with Ebony knobs, and solid one piece Ebony bridge.
Custrom made tailpiece, Varnish finish. Price includes a
Crossrock mandola case.
Note: This octave mandolin cannot have an internal pickup
installed because of the way the top is braced.
For my American customers, note that this octave mandolin
does not have any shell inlay. The fingerboard marker
dots are opal, and the headstock inlay is European Maple,
Huon Pine and Blackwood wood. There is no need for a
USA import permit and wildlife paperwork. Lacey Act
paperwork may be required depending on the exchange rate.
Sound clips coming soon.
