4 string Octave Mandolin for sale
4 string Octave Mandolin #348 $3000 (includes case)
This instrument is a customized special oder that was cancelled after it was finished so I have reduced the price (deposit has been paid). Not really sure what to call it. The customer wanted a very short scale tenor guitar, and this is what I came up with. It is built the same as a small short scale octave mandolin, but has 4 strings rather than 8 and has a tenor guitar headstock. Scale length is 17 & 3/4 inches. It is made from Australian native woods and acually sounds rather nice. The tone is excellent, probably better than any of my octave madolins, but is quieter than the OMs becasue of the 4 strings. No idea why the 4 strings produce such a nice sound. The back is made from some of the best fiddleback Blackwood I have.
Woods are - King Billy Pine top, fiddleback
Tasmanian Blackwood
back, sides and neck, Indian Rosewood bindings, Ebony fingerboard (12in radius, 33mm wide at the nut), 17 &
3/4 inch inch scale length, Gotoh gold tuners with black knobs, and solid one piece Ebony bridge.
Allen tailpiece, Varnish finish. Price includes a
Crossrock mandola case.
Note: This instrument cannot have an internal pickup
installed because of the way the top is braced.
For my American customers, note that this instrument does not have any shell inlay. The fingerboard marker
dots are opal, and the headstock inlay is
Huon Pine. There is no need for a USA import permit
nor wildlife paperwork. Lacey Act
paperwork may be required depending on the exchange rate,
and there is a tariff of 10% payable up front.
